Wikipedia's Labor Day vs. The Rodger's Labor Day

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September. The holiday originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union (of New York City) sought to create "a day off for the working citizens". Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday in 1894.[1] All fifty states have made Labor Day a state holiday.Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. Sadly it symbolizes the end of Alvin and I's summer as well. While we should be celebrating by boating, four wheeling, or full on relaxing - due to our procrastination Alvin and I will be using the day to literally labor. We'll be up at 7:00 am for our day of homework, essays, and applications! Here's to the good ol' USA, generous employers, and a day to catch up!

Happy Birthday Alvin!

It's my sweetheart's birthday! Alvin is turning a whopping 25! He shares his big day with Jack Black, Shania Twain, and Wayne Osmond (imagine that!). Also on this monumental day in history in 1963, 200,000 people participated in a peaceful civil rights rally in Washington, D.C., where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial. 20 years later in Chula Vista, California a beautiful Irish woman gave birth to a healthy bouncing baby boy! I love you sugar! Happy Birthday!

I AM SINGING AT THE PAARTY!

On Saturday we had a fun party with the family. My brother in law Dean's birthday was on August 17th and Alvin's is around the corner on the 28th. We had a nice night out at Guadalajara Grill complete with the embarrassing sombrero!

It's back to school for Alvin and I. I started 8/20 and Alvin is trying to soak up the last little bit of his break before Monday hits. I'm working on 14 credits and Alvin has 18. It's gonna be fun!

Hiking up in Brighton

How come when you have a day off you can't sleep in? Friday was my day off and I was up at 6:00 am. To Alvin's surprise I was waking him up at 7:00 am wondering if he wanted to go on a hike. Very not like me. We drove up to Brighton and hiked up to Mary Lake and Catherine Lake. It was a perfect morning to go for a little hike. It was beautiful up there. Here's a few pictures of our little adventure. Shh don't tell anyone but Nessie, our under water ally has relocated to Mary Lake.

I'm Craving Fall!

I hate to wish the summer away but I'm craving fall! There is an overwhelming urge to buy school supplies. It's like on that movie You've Got Mail when Tom Hanks is emailing Meg Ryan, "If I knew your name and address I would send you a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils." More than school supplies, I can't wait for crisp cooler days, sweaters, football, and hot apple cider. There is a place just north of Salem, Oregon that is quintessential for fall. It's a family farm called Bauman Farms. The first time Rosie and I walked in the little farm house we knew it just couldn't get any better. They serve freshly pressed hot apple cider and apple cider doughnuts out of the oven all a midst a pumpkin patch and an oopa loompa band playing "Edelweiss". I'm not sure why or where I got it from but nothing makes me happier than autumn activities. Alvin knows every year that he's getting dragged to the nearest Oktoberfest. The closest one to us now is up at Snowbird. It's complete with "ricola" horns, bratwurst, strudel, dancing, accordions, and plenty of lederhosen.

Atta Boy!

My baby hit a 4.0 this semester!!! I say that's not too shabby for 19 credits. This included 10 credit hours of accelerated physics. This gives him more of an edge as we are applying for graduate school. Way to go sugar!

ROAD TRIP!

So, we're off this weekend to southern Utah! We are going down with our friends Cort & Kristen Crandall. A big thanks to them for putting this whole sha-bang together. And a big thanks to Cort's cute mom for letting us bunk up at her house. It's kind of a whatever goes weekend... there is talk of caving. swimming pools, facials, plays, hiking the narrows, tubing down the Virgin River, and other frivolities. We are excited for a fun getaway after a very long but very productive summer semester!
