A Weekend Away

This past weekend I got to go visit the Webster’s in Phoenix. We got the ticket just for me because we thought Alvin would be at a scheduled graduate school interview. So when the U accepted Alvin all other schools were called off, but not my little getaway! Alvin said it best the other night, “January and February in Utah are the worst. January alone felt like 3 months in one.” It’s so true. The cold grey slosh and inversion were gladly traded for blue sky and 78 degrees! It was so nice to have some girl time with Rosie. We were shopping and I had to remind myself that I was returning to 40 degrees and flip flops and t-shirts weren’t yet a good idea. I also got to hang out with my cute little nephew Jackson. Lucky for me my nic name is close to Daddy so he caught on to “Naddy” real quick. He’s growing up so fast! Thanks Rosie and Jimmy for letting me hang out for a weekend. It felt like we were back up in Salem hanging out in the Copperfield Apartments all over again – seps no rain. (yay) Good times! Alvin on the other hand got a nice weekend away from the ball and chain... lol. Thanks Krissy and Cort for taking care of my baby for me. Upon my return Alvin had adopted a sweet new member into the Rodgers home. We haven’t named her yet, any good ideas? She’s really sweet and very much Alvin’s shadow. When I got home she looked at me like, “This is our house, who are you?” Anyhow, there’s a short update on what’s up with the silly Rodgers.

Ta Daa!

The last time I lived in the 84054 zip code I was 7 years old, now I’m back… Alvin and I just moved into the Foxboro Apartments in North Salt Lake! We’ve been bottom dwellers in my parent’s basement for the past 8 months. After Alvin was accepted at the University of Utah we started our search for our own place. We really hadn’t planned on moving out until April but Foxboro made it virtually impossible not to move in now – They didn’t charge us a deposit, it was only $200 for the rest of February, and with direct deposit of a nice tax return we signed the lease on Wednesday. We’ve been so blessed! I thought I was excited but you should have seen Alvin. Wednesday night he began moving things in. While I was at work on Thursday he managed to carry (among other huge items) our mattress and box spring up three flights of stairs by himself. He seriously did 90% of this move all alone. (Thanks sugar!) I got to do the fun part…decorate! On a side note, my parents were in Phoenix visiting my sister during this whole thing. We decided to keep it a secret and surprise them on their return. We picked them up from the airport this afternoon and with a small white lie we drove them straight to our new place instead. They were so surprised. It was funny to see them head back up to Kaysville and us stay put. I took a few pictures of our new place. We’re not completely done setting up shop but here’s a taste…

For the past few weeks I've been slowly working on a rag quilt for my sister-in-law Annie. She's having a baby boy in May and she's obsessed with froggies (hence the fabric I picked). I haven't sewn since 7th grade. We had to make a pillow for home economics. For some reason I chose to make the level 5 snake. I found my old project hiding in my mom's closet...

Awesome huh? (lol) So when I pulled out the sewing machine I had to remember what a presser foot and a bobbin was. But after a few practices I ventured onto my project for Annie. It's finally all finished!
The Back

The Front

I'm sticking to projects that look awesome raggy...

WE'RE IN! WE'RE IN! WE'RE IN!

Halle-freaking-lujah!! Alvin finally got his letter from the University of Utah! We’re in baby!
Applying to graduate school has been the most stressful and expensive process ever. The letter came on the exact day we were supposed to overnight our $300 deposit to hold his spot at the Washington University in St. Louis. As much as we’d love to go to WUSTL the tuition we’d pay for just the first year there would more than pay for all three years at the U! After he called me at work I ran around the office telling everyone. Jeri said, “I heard all this ruckus coming from the corner but couldn’t place who it was. I don’t think I’ve ever hear you so excited before.” What a relief this is. I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome it is not to be in limbo anymore! We can finally move on with the next step in our lives. We’re going to start looking for housing downtown. So if you know of anywhere with w/d hook ups and will let us have a kitty, let me know! Lol. Congratulations sugar! I’m so proud of you! I guess this means I don’t have an excuse for “stress food” anymore… i.e. Dr. Pepper and French Toast sticks from Burger King – eesh.

If Man Were Meant to Fly...

Stress manifests itself in silly ways. Last night as we were laying in bed talking, Alvin got laughing so hard for about 10 minutes straight. The kind of laughing that makes your tummy hurt and makes it difficult to breathe. It was over the dumbest thing too. What made me laugh was how much he sounded like Archimedes from The Sword in the Stone, take a look see... (for some reason the embedding won't work so just click on the link if you want)

This has to be my most favorite Disney movie. Forget the princesses I'll take Merlin and Madam Mimm any day!

For Reals?

What a funny tradition... Some dude pulls a groundhog from his home and declares 6 more weeks of winter - he should be shot! (jk) Punxsutawney Phil was probably having a nice nap when he gets jerked out of bed. If I were him I'd use those huge teeth and bite the crap out of anything that grabbed me that way. This picture especially shows Phil's distaste for today. It looks like he's pretty ticked to me. I have a better idea... Instead of pulling Phil out of his hole, I'll go and whisper quietly into his hole, "Listen, you'd better stay inside. There's a bunch of weirdos out here who want to know if there's gonna be 6 more weeks of winter or not. So, how's about we save us both some grief and you tell me there's no shadow and we can both go back to bed happy..."
