Card Carrying Members

We're now card carrying members of the South Davis Recreation Center! There should be no more:

Buzzie: Hey Flaps, So what we were going to do?
Flaps: I don't know, what'cha onwanna do?
Buzzie: Look Flaps, first I say "what were going to do?" then you say "I don't know, what'cha wanna do?" then I say "what we're going to do" then you say what'cha wanna do" let's do something.
Flaps: Ok. What'cha wanna do?

$32 smackers a month gets unlimited access to swimming, fitness equipment, ice skating ('cause my triple lutz is really suffering), and all the water aerobics and spinning classes we can handle! This new rec center is cool in all but it doesn't hold quite the same fondness as the ol' Bubble used to. First of all, I don't think Mr. Unger works there anymore. Second, the condensation doesn't rain down on you like before. Third, there aren't all the unashamed mormon mothers stripping down to their nudies in the ladies dressing room, wait a minute, that hasn't changed a bit.

Rollerblading Anyone?

Today seems like the first sunshiny day for a while so we had to take advantage of it. The first idea was just to go hiking maybe up in Mueller Park or up Adam's Canyon but it evolved into rollerblading on the Legacy Trail. I was hesitant to pull out the rollerblades because of the verbal abuse I got the last time I had donned them. We were in Salem and a passing car with their windows down literally pointed and laughed at me! (lol, well deserved I guess) But for today it seemed like we'd be in good company along the Legacy Trail. What went from "just a few miles" turned into 15! We rollerbladed all the way to my parents house in Kaysville! I'm sun burned and sore but it was a fun adventure.

Step 1: School Step 2: Baby

With all this baby talk going on I’ve got to reestablish my determination to finish my education. It’s so important to me to get “the degree” yet so tempting to be a mommy. I just think that if I don’t take the time to get my education now that it won’t happen until I’m 45 and then it could be too late. We know too many women out there that have been left unprepared by the death of a spouse, divorce, or disability. In my family alone, there are three of us without father-in-laws. Don’t get me wrong, I completely honor and respect the role of the mother in the home and cannot wait for that time in Alvin and I’s life. I would just like to be armed for the unexpected as well as what’s in the genes.

I found a talk by Pres. Gordon B Hinckley called “Rise to the Stature of the Divine within You”. He delivered this back in November of 1989, I was four.

“For you who are young and for you who are older, may I rather quickly suggest three endeavors in which all of you can engage. In making these suggestions I do not ask that you reach beyond your capacity. Please don’t nag yourself with thoughts of failure. Do not set goals far beyond your capacity to achieve. Simply do what you can do, in the best way you know, and the Lord will accept of your effort.

First, educate your hands and your minds. You belong to a church which espouses education. To you young women may I suggest that you get all the education you can. Train yourselves to make a contribution to the society in which you will live. There is an essence of the divine in the improvement of the mind. “The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.” (D&C 93:36.) “Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.” (D&C 130:18.)”

So here goes, summer semester here I come!

Baby Talk

This afternoon Alvin and I were on our way to the grocery store. Through the turn-about Alvin pops in, "You wanna have a baby?" Huh, what!? Now I've been abnormally baby hungry lately so I was in no mood to be played with. Alvin continued by saying, "I'm getting old, and Jon keeps telling me how awesome it is to open the door and hear 'daddy!'" After a brief reality check our discussion concluded that keeping to our "3 to 4 year plan" is still the best idea. As much as I would love to bring a little bit of Alvin and a little bit of me into this world, there are still some huge things that need to be accomplished. (Some of our goals - in no particular order.)

1. Alvin graduate from Physical Therapy school (3 years).
2. I'm thinking more and more that I want to double major in English and Graphic Design. (I'm not sure how long this is going to take.)
3. Get into a home, not a requirement but a want.
4. Have a financial plan for all of this.

So, in other words., give us some time and a tree that grows dollar bills and we'll make it happen.
Besides, this is what might pop out (scary...) so it might be a good thing to hold off. (Jk...)

It's the easter bunny, bock bock.

This is the Easter basket I made Alvin for our first Easter together. I think we had only been back from our honeymoon for a week and if you can't tell I went a little overboard. (Me go overboard? Na....) As for year three... I just barely remembered that Easter is on Sunday and he'll be lucky if he gets a mindy mint! (Man, I'm a mean wife...) Better yet, I'll get a some plastic eggs and put coupons in them instead of candy and hide them around our apartment. When he finds them he'll get coupons like, "Bon Appetit! *Redeem this coupon for the dinner of your choice! *Valid only April 1-31st, 2020" What a lucky guy, lol.

Sunshine & Rain

This morning I hesitated before opening the blinds. For the past two weeks, if not the past two months, when I’ve opened our blinds it’s been to snow, sleet, rain, slush, and grey. There was a big sigh of relief when I saw a strange light coming through. It was the sun popping through! I’ve been suffering a lack of vitamin D.

I saw an article on NaturalNews.com written by Mike Adams stating, “As a study from the University of Maine explains, teenage girls are not getting enough vitamin D. As a result, they are at risk for disorders and diseases caused by this nutritional deficiency, including osteoporosis and possibly even cancer and high blood pressure. The cause? Lack of sunlight. Vitamin D is primarily produced by your skin when exposed to sunlight, and with so many people in the United States being brainwashed into thinking that the sun is bad for your health, few people get enough sunshine these days, especially in northern geographic regions.”

I’m considering buying a tanning pass for my mental health. And if you’ve seen Alvin and I lately, our pasty white selves could bare to use some UV’s.

During all this past moisture though I had a funny memory… We were living at 251 Gary Way. I think I was probably 4 or 5 years old. It was a drizzly afternoon and all my siblings were still in school. I found a large cardboard box and turned it into my house. I had drawn on windows and cut out a door. Once the decorations were finished my house and I were ready to face the elements. I carried my creation out to the front yard and sat inside it. I’m not sure where my imagination went from there. I wonder if I simply just sat inside. Anyhow, as the drizzle became more of a down pour my cardboard home began to droop. It wasn’t the sturdy fortress I’d hoped but I was determined to stick it out. I can’t remember how long the soggy box and soggy Nattie lasted. Here’s a picture of a much cooler cardboard box house, now imagine it wet and sagging with the four year old version of me inside… lol.

Feeling Yucky....

This is what Alvin and I look & feel like. Make it go away!
